A Prayer for the World

22 Nov

Ancestors of the Eastern shores! Be with us today in this time of turbulence and upheaval. A great spiritual storm affronts the children of our mother earth. The forces of insanity, fear, greed and hatred rage on. Oh ones of the eastern light of morning, providers of hope and serenity. Center our minds with reason, we beg you, so that we may hear the truth and know it, and by knowing it speak it. May this truth light the beacon of reason in all who hear, so that a thousand, thousand shining dawns of tomorrow will be born. We welcome you to our gathering, and give you our thanks.

Welcome and hail, ancestors of the East.

Ancestors of the Southern shores! Be with us today in this time of corruption and cynicism. Blood of the innocent has been shed, and the mouths of the young go hungry and cry out for deliverance. Oh ones of the fire of summer’s day, providers of passion and justice, burn through the divine spark in each of us, so that we may kindle the torch of justice. Once kindled, we will proudly hold the torch out to the night of wrongdoing and say: see here! This fire will never go out! By its light no evil will continue, and by its warmth the children will rejoice. We welcome you to our gathering and give you our thanks.

Welcome and hail, ancestors of the South.

Ancestors of the Western Shores! Be with us today in this time of suspicion and cruelty. The children of the one mother turn their backs on each other, and they plunder she who gave them birth. Oh ones of the cool sweet deepness of evening’s shade, providers of love and communion. Wash your gentle grace over humankind that they might look upon each other as the miracles that they are. May they only act with love held safe in the cup of their hearts and may they offer hands and home to their fellow sufferers with the faith in the righteousness of mercy. We welcome you to our gathering and give you our thanks.

Welcome and hail, ancestors of the West.

Ancestors of the Northern Shores! Be with us today in this time of strife and poverty. We have forgotten the blessings of the ground you anointed with your toil, your tears and buried hopes for us your children. Oh ones of the star-bathed sleeping earth, providers of peace and respect. Let us hear the beating of your drums and know it to be the heartbeat of the earth, the heartbeat of all living things. Give us the peace of mind to accept the gifts of reason, justice, and love. Teach us to safeguard these things and speak only out of the deepest respect for the potentials in each other. We welcome you to our gathering and give you our thanks.

Welcome and hail, ancestors of the North.

Mother Earth and Father Sky, Let us remember the gifts and lesson given to us by our past, and our sacred duty to the promise of the future. Be with those who speak the truth and those who turn their heads to hear. Be with those who seek for justice, and those who stand and abide the coming of that justice. Be with those who offer love and keep them safe, and those who seek to heal in the waters of mercy. Be with those who work for a lasting peace, and those who cry out for the dawning of that promised day. Finally, bless us, mother and father, forgive us, support us, inspire us, correct us, and sustain us. We beg of you, your children, each of us bearing that divine spark, as equals, brothers and sisters, we pray now for the unity of all things to be clear and understood.

We bow our heads and offer the light of our love to those that are suffering, for those who speak and those who must remain silent, for those who have been slain and those who still stand.

Awen.
